The Soul of Tohoku

Did you go to Tohoku Rokkon Festival last weekend?997969c93a6548b47529b485c71b45bc

I wasn’t very excited about it until the week before it came.  Then I started hearing more and more about what was coming, and I began to really look forward to it.

On Saturday I watched the Blue Impulse air show, visited Umai Mono Hiroba in Yabase, and then watched the parade.  I enjoyed myself immmensely even though I had to stand the whole time.  Then on Sunday I walked around Akita station and went to Area Nakaichi.  I was surprised when I suddenly felt like a Tohoku jin.  It may sound strange coming from a foreigner, but if that’s the effect Rokkon sai has, I say let’s keep it coming.   It brought a lot of people to Akita who may have never come if not for this event.  I hope many of them will come back again and again to experience all the beautiful things Akita has to offer.

Finally, I must admit a114_01 bit of prejudice on my part.  Even though I enjoyed all of the festivals from the six prefectures of Tohoku, I firmly believe that Kanto Festival is by far the most exciting and fun to watch.  Do you agree?  I can’t wait for Kanto Festival.

See you then?
