A Day Late & A Dollar Short

Today is Tuesday!   I am late!  Sorry.  I was so involved in Golden Week, that I forgot about my phrase.  I saw a great movie, Spotlight.  I recommend it to anyone.

Today’s phrase, “A day late and a dollar short“, is an old English idiom, used for times just like this.

For example, if I asked a girl to the school dance but another boy had already asked her, she might say:

I would love to go with you, but you’re a day late and a dollar short.

Or if I filed my taxes on March 16th instead of the 15th, I might be told:

Sorry, but you’re a day late and a dollar short . . .go to jail!

I’ll try not to be late again.  Enjoy your vacation!

P.S. there is also a movie, starring Whoopie Goldberg titled:

A day late and a dollar short
